Valuable Hints in Painting the Roof of Your House

Willain DaanMarch 11, 2023

Painting the roof of your house is a huge project that can be intimidating. And while it may seem like a daunting task to find out what products are the best, the right brushes and rollers, and how to complete such a large area in one go, there are still many things you can do before you head off to the store.

Here are some valuable hints that will help with painting your roof.

Know the type of paint you are buying

First off, you need to know what type of paint you are going to choose for your task before you head off to the store. There are different types of paints for different jobs and each does a specific job better than others. For instance; there are paints for metal roofs, which generally leave a better finish than those on wood. There are also paints specifically for wood.

Roof Restorations

For your house, a latex paint is the most common type of paint and will be what you see on the majority of roofs. Most painters recommend using an oil-based paint for the first coat and then switching over to a latex finish coat. This will help to seal up the old layer of paint and make sure that it is protected for when it rains.

Clean it down

After you buy your paint, it’s a good idea to clean the roof first. The paint will come out of the rollers and brushes easier, and if you areĀ Roof Painting Brisbane on an old surface, it may take more than one coat to get the job done. Paint that is not clean will take longer to dry, and could lead to a bad finish that is harder and more difficult to clean up. This can result in unwanted dirt under the paint or even rusting.

Know your measurements

Converting paint into other units of measurement is easy by changing the numbers around a little. 1 pot of latex paint covers about 200-300 square feet, which is 1/4 inch deep of paint. So if you are painting a 10’x20′ wall, you need 2 to 3 pots of latex paint. You can also calculate the gallons needed by dividing your measurements by 40, which is the amount of square feet that each gallon covers once applied.
